A Legendary Event is Born!
In the summer of 2005, in a steamy, cramped warehouse turned art-space in Baltimore, MD, Bit Gen Gamer Fest was born. John DeCampos and Chris Baines (founding members of Entertainment System) had birthed the idea for a video game music show in Baltimore after attending a similar event put together by video game rock comrades, This Place is Haunted titled, Video Game Armageddon. After great success with the first Bit Gen it was decided that the video game music and art show would be an annual event.
Over the years, Bit Gen has gone on to feature many bands that when they debuted where up and comers who later went on to do big things in the world of video game music. Such bands include Powerglove who went onto tour with Dragonforce, Anamanaguchi who composed the soundtrack to the Scott Pilgrim video game, the Megas who have done music directly with Capcom and the Protomen who have been met with great critical acclaim.
At Bit Gen Gamer Fest you can always expect to see the very best in video game inspired music as well as fresh new acts that are hungry to impress and are keeping this lively and thriving music genre alive. In addition to video game music Bit Gen Gamer Fest also remains an open exhibition space for video game inspired artists. Past artists have included Chris “8 bit artist” Olian, Jude and Levi Buffum and many more. If that wasn’t enough every Bit Gen Gamer Fest has tons of video games for attendees to enjoy. Everything from standing arcade classics to the most popular games of today on PS3, Wii and XBox 360.
We at Bit Gen Gamer Fest are proud to be sustaining this rich and wildly entertaining art form, a re-transmitted, remixed artistic vision that was formed when we first picked up a controller as kids and is now embedded in our very souls and has shaped the people we are today and the art that we produce and love.
